Jack and the Beanstalk 傑克與豆莖
Once upon a time there lived a poor widow and her son Jack.One day, Jack’s mother told him to sell their only cow.
從前，有壹個很窮的寡婦和她的兒子傑克生活在壹起。有壹天，母親告訴傑克要把他們唯壹的牛賣掉。
Jack went to the market and on the way he met a man who wanted to buy his cow.Jack asked, "What will you give me in return for my cow?"
傑克於是到集市賣牛，在路上，傑克遇到了壹個男人想買他的牛。傑克問：“妳要給我什麽來換我的牛？”
The man answered, "I will give you five magic beans!"Jack took the magic beans and gave the man the cow.
男人回答道：“我會給妳五個魔豆！”傑克拿到了魔豆，把牛給了那個男人。
But when he reached home, Jack’s mother was very angry.She said, "You fool! He took away your cow and gave you some beans!"
但是當他到家以後，傑克的媽媽非常地生氣。她說：“妳真傻！他牽走了妳的牛，就只給妳這些豆子！”
She threw the beans out of the window. Jack was very sad and he went to sleep without dinner.
她把豆子扔出了窗外。傑克非常傷心，沒有吃晚飯就上床睡覺了。
The next day, when Jack woke up in the morning and looked out of the window, he saw that a huge beanstalk had grown from his magic beans!
第二天他睡醒時，朝窗外壹看，看到從他的魔豆裏長出了壹根巨型豆莖！
He climbed up the beanstalk and reached a kingdom in the sky. There lived a giant and his wife.
他爬上豆莖，到達了天上的王國。那裏住了壹個巨人和他的妻子。
Jack went inside the house and found the giant’s wife in the kitchen.
傑克走進房子裏，看見巨人的老婆正在廚房。
Jack said, "Could you please give me something to eat? I am so hungry!"The kind wife gave him bread and some milk.
他說：“妳能給我壹些吃的麽？我太餓了！”好心的婦人給了他面包和牛奶。
While he was eating, the giant came home. The giant was very big and looked very fearsome.Jack was terrified and went and hid inside.
他正在吃的時候，巨人回家了。巨人非常的大，看起來非常可怕。傑克很害怕，他躲了起來。
The giant cried, "Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an English man. Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make my bread!"
巨人大聲咆哮著：“Fee-fi-fo-fum，我聞到了壹個英國男人的血的味道！不管他是活的還是死的，我都要磨碎他的骨頭做面包！”
The wife said, "There is no boy in here!"
他的妻子說：“這裏沒有人！”
So, the giant ate his food and then went to his room. He took out his sacks of gold coins, counted them and kept them aside. Then he went to sleep.
於是巨人吃完東西進了屋子。他拿出麻袋裏的錢，數了數，把它們放在壹邊。然後他就去睡覺了。
In the night, Jack crept out of his hiding place, took one sack of gold coins and climbed down the beanstalk.
到了晚上，傑克從他躲藏的地方爬了出來，拿了壹麻袋的金幣，爬下了豆莖。
At home, he gave the coins to his mother. His mother was very happy and they lived well for some time.
回家後，他把金幣給了媽媽。媽媽高興極了，他們過了壹段好日子。
After a while Jack climbed the beanstalk and went to the giant’s house again.
過了壹段時間，傑克又爬上了豆莖，走到巨人的屋子裏。
Once again, Jack asked the giant’s wife for food, but while he was eating the giant returned.
又壹次，傑克向巨人的妻子要了食物。但是當他在吃的時候，巨人回來了。
Jack leapt up in fright and went and hid under the bed.
傑克壹下子跳了起來，藏在了床底下。
The giant cried, "Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make my bread!"
巨人大聲咆哮著：“Fee-fi-fo-fum，我聞到了壹個英國男人的血的味道！不管他是活的還是死的，我都要磨碎他的骨頭做面包！”
The wife said, "There is no boy in here!"The giant ate his food and went to his room. There, he took out a hen.
他的妻子說：“這裏沒有人！”巨人吃完東西進了房間。這次他拿出了壹只母雞。
He shouted, "Lay!" and the hen laid a golden egg.When the giant fell asleep, Jack took the hen and climbed down the beanstalk. Jack’s motherwas very happy with him.
他喊道：“下蛋！”然後母雞就下了壹個金蛋。當巨人睡著以後，傑克拿走了母雞，又爬下了豆莖。傑克的媽媽高興極了。
After somedays, Jack once again climbed the beanstalk and went to the giant’s castle.
過了幾天，傑克又爬上了豆莖，走到巨人的城堡裏。
For the third time, Jack met the giant’s wife and asked for some food. Once again, the giant’s wife gave him bread and milk.But while Jack was eating, the giant came home.
第三次，傑克碰到了巨人的妻子，並要了些食物。又壹次，巨人的妻子給了他面包和牛奶。但是當他在吃的時候，巨人回來了。
"Fee-fi-fo-fum,I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make my bread!" cried the giant.
“Fee-fi-fo-fum，我聞到了壹個英國男人的血的味道！不管他是活的還是死的，我都要磨碎他的骨頭做面包！”
"Don’t be silly! There is no boy in here!"said his wife.
“別傻了，這裏沒有人！”他的妻子說。
The giant had a magical harp that could play beautiful songs.
巨人帶回了壹把有魔力的豎琴，它可以彈奏很多美妙的歌曲。
While the giant slept, Jack took the harp and was about to leave.
當巨人睡著以後，傑克拿著豎琴，正準備離開。
Suddenly, the magic harp cried, "Help, master! A boy is stealing me!"
突然，魔琴大喊：“救命，主人！有個男孩想要把我偷走！”
The giant woke up and saw Jack with the harp. Furious, he ran after Jack.
巨人醒了，看見傑克拿著豎琴。巨人狂怒地追在傑克後面。
But Jack was too fast for him. He ran down the beanstalk and reached home.
但是傑克比他跑得更快。他跑下豆莖，回到了家。巨人跟在他後面。
The giant followed him. Jack quickly ran inside his house and fetched an axe.
傑克快速地跑進屋子裏，取來壹把斧子。
He began to chop the beanstalk. The giant fell and died.
他開始砍這個豆莖。巨人摔了下來死了。
Jack and his mother were now very rich and they lived happily ever after.
傑克和他的媽媽變得非常富有，從此過上了幸福快樂的生活。

《傑克和豆莖》（Jack and the Beanstalk）是壹則英國童話，它是最著名的傑克故事。1734年首次出現於《傑克?史普林金與魔豆的故事》，1807年時出現在本傑明·塔巴特（Benjamin Tabart）的版本《傑克與魔豆史話》，但最普及的是約瑟夫·雅各布（Joseph Jacobs）的版本（1890年）。
有研究認為，約瑟夫的版本可能比較接近口語流傳時的版本，因為本傑明的版本中含有說教勸世的內容，而口語流傳時的版本通常比較沒有這類成分。
