丹妮絲·理查茲（Denise Richards）於1971年2月17日生於美國伊利諾斯州的芝加哥，在家中的兩姐妹中排行老大，父親艾伍·理查茲曾經為壹家電話公司工作過，母親喬妮·理查茲擁有壹家叫做“Jitters”的咖啡連鎖店。她從小在芝加哥長大，直到15歲時隨家移居加利福尼亞的歐欣賽德，並在當地的埃爾卡米諾中學讀書。
